Certificate of Equal Rights

What is it?

The granting of equal rights was established by the 1988 Constitution for Portuguese nationals with permanent residency in Brazil with reciprocity in favor of Brazilians. These foreign nationals keep their original nationality, but obtain equal rights with Brazilians, save the exceptions established in the Constitution. In the same manner, Brazilians who live in Portugal can apply for equal rights in that country.
Where must the certificate be done?

The interested party can fill out a form  (content in Portuguese), provide the documentation mentioned on the website and send the application, by registered mail or Sedex, addressed to the Federal Police (content in Portuguese) or the Ministry of Justice (content in Portuguese). In case the documentation required includes documents issued abroad, they must be legalized by the Brazilian consulate in the country of origin.
